Bitter Almonds

U2's So Cruel
only lines I'd change are "I'm only hangin on to watch you go down" other than that... Enjoy.

Does she think he doesn’t know?
Does she think he doesn’t see?
Her fact defying motions
In her glass menagerie.

Neighborhood filled
With signs for sale
Despite claims
Of all is well
She is not represented

House half lit
Surrounding Christmas Tree
Does more than
Tell
The tale

Yet

All is well
All is good
All is in place
Just as it should

Be

But it isn’t

In his absence, she retreats
As a stone fish
Singing siren song
Where past and future
Remain a wish
You see?
And present is forgotten
In the glass menagerie

Yet

All is well
All is good
All is in place
Just as it should

Be

But it isn’t

Expendable men
With expendable dreams
All serve to fill
The vapid void

Does she think he doesn’t know?
Does she think he doesn’t see?
Her fact defying motions
In her glass menagerie.

Silent hope

Okay the song is a remake of an eternal if such a thing is possible... but that's another poem ;)  For maximum effect of song and poem, wait till his intro ends (at about :40) and the song begins before you read the poem.  Enjoy it!

Silent hope

Conversation filled
Easy hesitation
Attempts to avoid
Mines marked
Hopefully marked...

Or hopefully
Not

The silent hope

Confident trepidation
Yet with the step
The masks slip

A pace
Curious quickining
As dancers
Drawn closer
To hidden dangers
Of devices
Longing to explode
Crying for release
Eruption of consumption
Total
But
Avoided
Hopefully...

Or hopefully
not

The silent hope

They had been warned that
The mines
Must be avoided
Slightest contact
Would induce
And remind
The power
Of the kiss
Fatal

Remembrance of
The continual flowing
Blood of Eden
The undulating pulse
Of the hearts constant beat
Constant
All to be denied
Hopefully...

Or hopefully
Not

The silent hope

“Each week?”
Loaded question
Or
Inviting wish?

The mines are only a step away

Hopefully...
Or hopefully not

The silent hope

Abre tus ojos

A conversation filled
With fear of the chasm
All the while
Longing to cross
To surpass the distance
To hold
To run

"Tus ojos son comos las estrellas en el cielo negro de mi minete"
Feigning drift
“Abre tus ojos” whispered Nerda slowly tipping his hat.
While a  cummings in the corner,
Silently swore of secrets hidden in hearts.

Were they talking to he?
Were they talking to she?

As the 300-pound gorilla
Left undiscussed
Proudly beat his chest
Deafening discussion
Killing conversation
Securing stasis

Lethal

music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwhzL9IE1Dc&feature=related (Beatles Tomorrow Never Knows)

The cigarette pack thumped a steady beat on his watch
Tapping out the minutes, tapping out the seconds
In the half light of electric day, the lights hummed an angry monotone

He stood watching
He stood waiting
She would come

Unwrapping the pack he reflected, with a peel of the cellophane his reflections opened
Thoughts, like the compounded cigarettes,
Whose compressed shape should have controlled and limited the fire sticks,
Deprived of life sustaining oxygen, any flame that touched would limply burn before dying

However the dense tobacco now compressed only intensified the flavor
A flavor he knew he would savor

So as he prepared for her arrival, he focused all,
On one thought, one cigarette
He took out the cigarette; it felt so good in his hands
Caringly he compacted this cigarette even further,
For she would soon arrive

By tapping on his watch—slow, methodical, measured, insistent
For this cigarette he wanted to burn long slow and hot
As he waited for her arrival it was the cigarette he placed between his lips
Softly he placed the cigarette, making sure it was home
He began to salivate,
in eager anticipation of the intoxicating gift his lips would soon consume

Sure of her arrival, he lit the match,
And true to her word, she arrived

With a glance from her eyes
the cigarette was lit – the long slow burn had begun
On seeing her wave ‘Hello’,
Smoke was drawn into his lungs
The bittersweet blend of tepid smoke

As his lungs filled with a toxic blend coating all with tar
So too did his thoughts coat his heart, with its own toxic blend
Coating all in a seething burning tempest

It tasted so good
He never exhaled

"Whisper to me"

music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzFnYcIqj6I (Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again)

“Whisper to me”
Pleading words
Softly dripped
From lips ripe red

Her fingers gently caressed
his
As a finishing waver
Revealed a hint
Of desperation

Slight grin on his face
Did not reveal
The critical state
His rushing heart
Made heavy
By the flood of passion

A deluge of delight
Brought by
A cherubic interloper
Conjured
Each time their souls
Longed for the caress
Of the other

And each time
Was all the time

It could burn mellow
And it could burn low
But the chronic burn
Was ever-present

So in the room filled with bystanders
He turned
And in hushed words
Lethal terms were muffled and muted
Tales of longing touches
Of the lingering trace
Of paradise deferred

By why did they whisper?
Did they not fear of being caught?

They had to whisper
Any word louder
Might break the levee
Holding primal waves back

But the language had to be spoken
To fortify
And strengthen
Spirits made weary
From their labor

For in the sacred space
When the two
Could be
Only the two
Paradise lost
Could again
Become
Paradise found

For Her

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCQ0vDAbF7s (R.E.M. Shiny Happy People)

For him
She was
Beauty savage
Beauty fierce
Never
Beauty fragile

For he looked
As he
And saw her
As she

In fierce fire forged
Of a bond unspoken
He could be amazed
With the slightest curve
The delicate balance
In the slightest move

But at the beginning of the day
And at its end
It would always be her eyes

Not solely for their beauty
And the captivation contained
But she would give him that look
The look that told
That she
Was she

Beckoning his soul
That it was safe
For him
To be he

And in simple conversations
Of passing’s of the day
Dreams of the future
Remembrances of the past
Hearts danced
And frolic in fields
All their own

And her
Beyond all
She loved the way he said her name
It was different in his mouth
The gentle caress by his breath of life
Displayed, it was comfortable in his mouth
It was at home in his mouth
It was accepted

She was accepted

For her
For Her

From darkness into light

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBm-m67d3Bg (Siouxsie And The Banshees: Kiss them for me)

“Gotta move”
Splash of cologne
Slamming door
Diminutive lights
Village green
Meeting beckoned
But what
Was to be seen

From darkness into light

With a step
Ashen sidewalk turned beige
Purple-blue grass dissolved to green
Prominent Confederate remembrances
Defiant stand
Stone veteran of a lost cause
Watched and bled anew
As his rural sentry was overrun
By the urbanization
unstoppable

Ancient facades
Of feed and general stores
Filled with the seamless meld
Of bars press into Ice Cream parlors

Yet the stone soldier stood
Defiant
Regardless

Continued walk
Light to darkness

Like an grey artery
Off an travelled street
A rudimentary bank clock
Continued shouting time
To a mute and slumbering world

8:55

Initial steps
Vision adjusted
Darkness into light
Heart rapid
Shadow faces
None recognized

All it took was a forward press

Half-light to half-light

Towards the side
Figure sat
Face hidden

Apprehensive Approach
Name nuance

A turn
Twist of flowing hair
Hidden eyes
Seduced
With merely a glance
Placid blue
Belied a tempest beneath
Revealed by a welcoming
Mischievous smile

From darkness into light
