Rachel

Working script for a working shoot, I will post stuff for my muse Monday Tuesday on... you guessed it... Monday or Tuesday :)
FADE UP:

INTERIOR OF A VAN DRIVING AT NIGHT.  AS IF TAKEN FROM THE DRIVERS POINT OF VIEW HIS HANDS ARE PLACED ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND STRINGS ARE AROUND ONE WRIST.

                                                                        JACOB:
The info may have been weak.  But it was something.  Little more than a trace on a purchase. But, if it will stop this maddening chase, I’ll go for anything.

FADE OUT:

FADE UP:

RACHEL STANDS BEFORE A MAGAZINE RACK LOOKING AT MAGAZINES.

RACHEL (VO):
I like magazines. That’s not a crime.

RACHEL EXAMINES A MAGAZINE.

RACHEL: (VO CONT’D)
Rags filled with glossy photos.

RACHEL EXAMINES AN ADVERTISEMENT OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AND A BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDING

RACHEL: (VO CONT’D)
You know the kind, faraway places where the grime don’t stick and stink don’t smell.  So close yet always so far.

RACHEL: (VO CONT’D)
My grandparents came here from Okinawa.  An island invaded during a time of war.  The movies showed what the public could stand…

NEWSREEL FOOTAGE OF VICTORIOUS SOLDIERS

                                                                        RACHEL: (VO CONT’D)
                                                …while the soldiers saw…

NEWSREEL FOOTAGE OF CIVILIAN MOTHERS LEAPING OFF CLIFFS WITH CHILDREN IN THEIR ARMS

                                                                        RACHEL:
…what soldiers saw what only soldiers should see.  Desperate civilians caught up in chaos doing desperate things.  There are photos of that too…

NEWSREEL FOOTAGE OF BATTLE/CIVILIANS ON OKINAWA

                                                                        RACHEL: (CONT’D)
…but these photos are different kinds of photos.  Not the lacquered visions offered by the magazines.  No these are a little more honest.  Maybe they have to be.  That’s not a crime, and that aint me.

SHOTS OF PEOPLE AT NIGHT TIME IN THE SQUARE

                                                                        RACHEL: (CONT’D)
This is my town… at least for now.

SHOT OF RACHEL READING

                                                                        RACHEL (CONT’D)
For the past two weeks I’ve set up stakes here.  But I always have to keep an eye out….

RACHEL LOOKS AT STREET

                                                                        RACHEL (CONT’D)
…avoid the him.  Just when I start to get comfortable in a
place… well… that’s when he shows up. Now I’m nervous, cause I am starting to get comfortable.

RACHEL LOOKS UP AND SEES NOTHING LOOKS BACK AT MAGAZINE

GREEN VAN COMES TO A PARKING SPACE STOP.  A GENTLEMAN OPENS THE DOOR AND HAS STRINGS IN HIS HAND.  INSIDE OF STORE RACHEL IS READING.  MAN OPENS DOOR AND DOORCHIME ALERTS RACHEL.  JACOB GOES TO COUNTER.

                                                                        JACOB:
Excuse me, but do you have a Rachel…

JACOB PUTS UP A PICTURE

                                                                        JACOB: (CONT’D)
                                                …have you seen this girl?

                                                                        CLERK
                                                Can’t say that I have?

                                                                        JACOB
Do you mind if I look around for her?

                                                                        CLERK:
                                                Can’t say that I do.

JACOB STARTS TO LOOK FOR RACHEL.  RACHEL HIDES BEHIND A BOOKSHELF.  JACOB ENTERS SCENE PAUSES. AND THEN LEAVES.

                                                                        RACHEL:
I have to get out of here.

RACHEL LEAVES THE STORE.

FADE DOWN:

RACHEL STANDING OUTSIDE HER HOUSE.  FLIPPING THROUGH KEYS.11

                                                                        RACHEL (V.O.)
Never fails time to move on.  Thank goodness I keep most of my stuff in the car.  Just have to pick up some of my new magazines….

A GREEN VAN PULLS UP.  RACHEL STOPS FLIPPING THROUGH HER KEYS AND LOOKS AT THE CAR SCARED.  SHE TURNS TO RUN BEHIND THE WALL OF THE BUILDING.  MAN GETS OUT OF THE CAR, RACHEL LOOKS VERY SCARED.  HE WALKS TO THE DOOR.  STOPS KNOCKS THREE TIMES.

                                                                        JACOB:
                                                Rachel?  Rachel?

RACHEL’S FACE LOOKS VERY FRIGHTENED.

                                                                        JACOB:
Rachel?  It’s Publisher’s Clearing house Rachel.  Rachel, you are a winner.  Rachel?

FRUSTRATED JACOB WALKS BACK TO HIS CAR.

                                                                        RACHEL:
                                                I’ll leave the stuff.

RACHEL GRABS HER KEYS AND WALKS OFF SCREEN

                                                                        RACHEL: (CONT’D)
I just like magazines.  That’s not a crime.
